The last time I wrote, I was in Exmouth. I enjoyed it there very much. My last day was a blinder! I was invited on a little day trip for free by an Easyrider bus driver with my lovely Swiss roomie Ramona, and we had a great time. We went down into the Cape Range National Park and went snorkelling at Turquoise Bay, which is right on the Ningaloo reef. I was thrilled because I saw a beautiful leopard shark, and I've never seen one of them before. We also saw a nice little white tip reef shark, which was great. On the way back, we stopped at Vlaming Head lighthouse to watch the sunset with a glass of champagne, with humpback whales swimming through the bay beneath us. I tell you folks, life doesn't get much better
After that, I took the Greyhound bus to a shithole called Karratha, in order to get a tour into Karijini National Park. On the bus, I met a lovely lady called Meryl, who asked me if I wanted to come up to Cossack and Point Samson with her, as Karratha was crap and she was hiring a car. We had a fab time looking round Roebourne, Cossack and Point Samson. They are some of the oldest settlements in Western Australia, and it was really interesting to think of how the first settlers must have felt upon arrival in this harsh, unforgiving country. Not only is the landscape daunting, but the area is assailed by cyclones every few years. It must have been devastating for the inhabitants to build something up and see it flattened on a regular basis. They must have been tough characters!
In the end, I got a 3 day tour to Karijini, with Meryl and 6 others. We had a fantastic time. We camped out under the stars in swags, which are great Aussie camp beds
After that, I spent one yucky night in Karratha and then came up to Broome. I've just been chilling out with a lovely couple called Tim and Luanne from Leeds. Met up with Chris and Ramona from Exmouth and spent some time with them too. Been to the beach, spent hours by the pool. It's a hard life y'know! I am getting a tour up the Gibb River Road for 1 day on Saturday and will then be heading to Kununnurra to get a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles. Can't wait to see them, because Helen Daniels from Neighbours always went there to paint when she was having a crisis of some kind! Sad or what!
After that, it's up to Darwin for a bit, and then I'm hopefully meeting up with Tim and Lu and driving with them down to Adelaide via Alice Springs, Uluru, Kings Canyon etc.
Think I will have to pull my finger out and earn a bit of cash in the near future. We'll see what happens. I am currently very much enjoying my fluid life here, living on a day to day basis. It's great! Anyway, I'll be in touch soon, if not in Kununnurra, then in Darwin. Hopefully within a week there'll be a new entry on the site!
