We headed off to Monkeyland and nearby Birds of Eden today, both similar kinds of places - they rehabilitate monkeys/birds that were previously captive and endeavour to restore the animals natural behaviour.
We took an hour guided tour around Monkeyland, well worthwhile... One of the first things that the guide said was to tell us to not touch or speak to the monkeys, no worries I thought. But I had to really stop myself from talking to them, as I have a weid habit of talking to animals..... Anyways, the squirrel monkeys were the first ones we spotted - they were actually in the restaurant place running amok, very naughty but awfully cute! The first monkeys were spotted on the tour were capuchins: they have the most hilarious hair styles!!! Some of them looked they had proper Elvis barnets, class. There was a poor Gibbon in amongst the monkeys who was a tad confused and thought she was actually a monkey herself; the guide called her 'Claudia Schiffer' because she was blond
The only downside to the place was the damn mozzies, I got ravaged, urgh.
Next stop was Birds of Eden. Some of the birds were well cheeky..... Anna-Marie was trying to get a cockatoo to play with a bit of stick, then it leaped onto her back and bit her top and dug its claws in, hilarious!!!!! Lise was also 'attacked' by one which refused to get off her back and had to be removed by a warden. Later on she also had another one after her, but this time it snaffled her earring and then taunted us with it, flying away a bit and then playing with it in its mouth, little terror!
It was a great way to spend the morning and early afternoon, and though we had planned on going to the elephant sanctuary we were just too knackered, so opted for a relaxing afternoon in the sun at the lovely Fynbos Ridge accommodation, followed by a scrumptious meal. Fab!!!

Ahh, how sweet
! She came barging through our tour party to catch up with the gang of monkeys that she had attached herself to, that was quite a moment. We also saw some ring tailed lemurs, and more squirrel monkeys. Towards the end of the tour we were taken to cages where some of the more vicious monkeys are kept, including 3 orphans. One shitty kid that was on the tour made the mistake of stepping between the rope and the cage, and the 3 orphans came screeching over, rattling the bars of the cage and screaming - the kid got a right fright!!!!!The only downside to the place was the damn mozzies, I got ravaged, urgh.
