Well, I've finally moved out of the hostel into a proper house! It's only for a few weeks, but I've been really lucky: my friend from Rosemeres was offered a house and cat to take care of for 3 weeks, and guess who she invited to come up with her - yep, yours truly. I'm living there rent free, so it's sweet. It's in Brooklyn which is just outside the city boundary, so technically I'm not actually living in the CBD anymore. Wellington is really hilly, and round where the house is it's so steep - it takes about 20minutes to walk to work, but then walking back it takes a good half hour!
The house itself is really pretty- it's surrounded on 3 sides with wooden decking, and is also surrounded by vegetation; really quiet and peaceful too. A great place to recover from the excess of xmas and New Year!
I'm hoping that walking to and from work this week coupled with a few sessions at the gym will help me to prepare for the weekend - we're doing the Tongariro crossing which is one of the best one day trek in New Zealand. It's a 17km walk through some weird and wonderful landscape - one of the mountains there was used as Mt Doom on Lord of the Rings, so it's all a bit sinister round there......
I'm really looking forward to the walk, and hoping to take loads of piccies, although my camera is a bit buggered as it got loads of sand in it from the beach on new year. Looks like it's time to upgrade... But not to a new face, just a new camera
