What a day!!!
Managed to fit in quite a lot today. The morning started with Paul driving Robs Holden SV down to the marina in Havelock where Rob had drove the boat up to... This was a bit hairy as Paul hadn't driven Rob's car before and the car also had a trailer attached; coupled with the windy roads... But we made it fine, and then headed to Motueka and Abel Tasman, which was a good 2 hours drive. We passed through Nelson on the way - brought back memories of having to wait there for ages for my driving licence back in October! Boo!
Motueka was bigger than I had expected; even though it is pretty small I thought that it would have been even smaller. Seemed like a nice place though, and there were loads of apple orchards around; I reckon it'd be a great place to pick apples in the autumn.
Our final destination was actually Kaiteriteri beach, where we launched the boat. The beach there has such golden sands, and the water is so clear. Lovely!
The sun was shining as we jetted off and headed to find a nice beach along the Abel Tasman shoreline - eventually we found one that looked quite enough, even though we did have to share with a few kayakers.
We were gonna look for some dolphins and head to a seal colony but the wind had picked up and the sea was a bit rough, the boat was bouncing all over the place on the waves, so unfortunately that was out, and so we just headed back to Kaiteriteri beach for a chill out; wake boarding was again ruled out, boo!!
After catching some rays it was time to head - I had to catch my ferry back from Picton to Wellington in the late afternoon.
We went through Nelson again on the way home; and Rob decided to fill up with petrol and get some gas for the BBQ so I was quizzed on where all the petrol stations were dotted around Nelson, which sadly I had remembered..... He also took a wrong turning and didn't know where the hell he was going, but I was there to save the day and we finally escaped from Nelson!
It was a quick goodbye at the ferry terminal as I had just got there in time but the ferry was about to board. Then back to Welly again!! And Rosemeres hostel - where I found that the insides of my car had been decorated with christmas decorations - it looks well funny now!
