Today was supposed to be skydive and bungy jump day in Taupo. We watched some geezer jump off the Taupo bungy thing, and even though I really don't want to do a bungy it's only $65 before 11am, so I thought 'get out of your comfort zone and try it!' We were booked in to do a skydive first thing, and waking up the weather looked perfect for it, really blue sky and only a slight breeze. So off we went to the skydive place, got weighed and then kitted up to jump out of the plane! I was really looking forward to it, especially as last time I'd been in Taupo I'd got as far as to almost stepping on the plane to do a skydive then being told there was too much cloud and finally in the end not being able to go at all. So you can imagine my disappointment as I was again ready to step onto the plane, only to be stopped as the wind had picked up too much. We sat around waiting for about an hour, then got told the wind was too strong and it was getting too cloudy to go... Bummer!!! I'm gonna go back to Taupo though, so maybe third time lucky!
The bungy jump was also off, as it was almost 11 by the time we got back into Taupo, and I didn't want to pay $100 for it.... Plus I had to head to Welly as I'd told Anna-Marie and Paul that I'd pick them up from Welly airport if I got back in time... Which was never gonna happen as the drive down takes about 5 hours and their plane got in at 3.30.
It was an amazing drive down though, taking me through the Tongariro National Park and some truly amazing sights. The roads were really windy and with steep gradients at times - my fave in my crappy car! I tried to take some piccies along the way, but it was a bit dangerous really so I only managed to get a couple in the end.
Eventually after a sweaty and hot drive I arrived in Welly, and took Anna-Marie and Paul up to Mt Vic so that they could see the great views. They seemed to like Welly which was good! Later on that evening we went out down Courtenay Place for a nice Italian meal - I was expecting to pay, but they had none of it, and I again got a fabulous meal for free!!! Awesome!
Just went out for some more beers after - went to the Tasting Room where I thought they had loads of different beers, bit of a let down as they just had the regular Monteiths. Good to be back in Welly though
