Well, got into Christchurch in time for bonfire night - and in true English fashion it was raining!! Still, we managed to watch some fireworks from our hostel, they were very pretty!
We went on into town for a couple of bevvies, but got a little bored of having to queue to get into places in the rain so decided to call it a night.... The next morning we got accused of being sick all over the paths in the hostel and making loads of noise... And the other person in our room had thought that I told him to get out of the room when I got in!! Nice!
Didn't get a good vibe from the hostel and not really impressed with Christchurch, so I decided we should head to Akaroa for a couple of nights. It's a pretty place about an hour or so away from Christchurch on Banks Peninsula, and was first colonised by the French so there's loads of French things around, like the names of the roads and stuff. Didn't do much here, went on a bit of a walk around and up some steep hills and realised how unfit I've got, and Kim swam with Hector dolphins which she absolutely loved. I was gonna do it myself but the water looked a little bit on the freezing side and I reckon I may save this activity for warmer climates....
So it was back to Christchurch after Akaroa, and to some gorgeous weather!! We're staying in a different hostel to the last time, this one is called Foley Towers (a bit of a play on the old Faulty Towers thing me thinks). Kim left us to go back to Wellington so now it's just me and Lee left, maybe this will help the car to get up the hills quicker, although I doubt it. Just been sat around in the park today getting a nice suntan. Ace! I'm still not too keen on Christchurch though, it's too sprawling and I haven't managed to get my bearings yet. But on the plus side I like the Pak n Save supermarket.....Gotta have a good Pak n Save....
