Well, it was off to Rome today to meet up with my mates, so I thought I'd make an early start.  We'd had thunder storms in the night which had bizarrely worked their way into my dreams, which turned into an apocalyptic scenario where the world was going to end... thankfully I was ok, although a crack of lightning went off about 10 metres away from me when I was checking out at the campsite.
Managed to purchase my train ticket at the station, then it was off to Rome, an ok journey, and I was sat near a small child who was learning how to speak, so I tried to pick up on a bit of basic language, obviously didn't work though.  I managed to find the campsite without any hiccups, although I nearly got crushed on the bus, and nearly squashed some woman with my rucksack, it was hideous and sweaty.  Met up with the others and we headed into the city to check out some sights:  the Spanish steps which were a bit crap really  - just a bunch of steps in a piazza really with some really expensive shops nearby: Dior etc.  We headed in the direction of what we thought was the Trevi Fontana, but it turned out to be Fontana di Tritone, which was a relief because as it came into sight I thought it was the biggest let down...  thankfully the Trevi fountain wasn't, I was completely amazed by the size of it.
We wandered down a few side streets, and then almost completely by accident seemed to stumble upon the Pantheon, and it completely took my breath away, the sheer size of it.  Inside is just as amazing as outside.... I actually found it difficult to even comprehend how old it is, it is so well preserved.
We headed off after being truely impressed with the Pantheon to Piazza Navona, but unfortunately it wasn't as pretty as it probably usually is, with scaffolding up in the centre of the piazza.  A restaurant off one of the side streets was the stop off for some scran - we all had pizzas, which were ok, but nothing too impressive really.
After dinner, we had a stroll down the River Tiber towards a metro station, a lovely end to a great day.
