...I'll probably be a bit of a mix of emotions - the eve of leaving! I can guarantee there will be tears. Spending the last few weeks with my friends and saying goodbye to some that I won't see again has been quite hard-hitting; the realisation that I'm actually going away. To Senegal. For a year. Freaky huh?

Whilst my friends are preparing for University, I'm preparing to go to Senegal. It's a bit weird, whilst they're buying cutlery and kettles, I'm buying gaffa tape 'just in case something needs fixing'. Whilst they're preparing to be thrown into a totally new environment, so am I - that's something we all have in common. It's nice to know that I have a university place waiting for me when I get home - to study French, German and Spanish at Durham Uni. Amee and I are both going to Durham (this is definitely not a coincidence!!) though at different colleges so if we end up hating each other this year we can still avoid each other if we need to! I don't think we will, we had a phone call yesterday to talk about medication and hiking boots - this girl is on my wavelength! ;)

Every day is one step closer to leaving. I got home from the 'One' (previously Grapevine) event at Lincoln Showground on Tuesday night where I'd been volunteering. Dad came and gave me a huuuuuuge hug. 'Dad, I've only been gone for 4 days!' I said. 'But I need to get every hug I can get over the next two weeks!'
I still can't imagine leaving, but I believe that God's holding onto my hand and he's not letting go. At 'One' I bought myself a 'Bible in a year', which just happens to begin on 1st September. I'm (weirdly) really looking forward to reading it!

I've attached a picture of me next to a monument thing that we saw in London - it definitely feels like Senegal is on my mind because I don't think I'd have taken a picture next to the Union Jack. (but I did steal some union jack bunting from 'Space', the venue where I was working at 'One' - if Amee doesn't protest too much I might have to decorate our room with it for a touch of patriotism!)

I need to go and pick up my anti malarials from the chemist so I'm off!

Over and out.
