Wow, so really this post is catch-up on the past couple of weeks.  Today is really October 6th, the day before the storm- the Corps, arrives!
What madness!  Less than a week ago we were in the middle of the redwoods, doing service, team building, playing music around the campfire, and now... full speed ahead.  We'll have time to sleep in about ten months!
I was foolish and barely scratched my grad applications so this month is going to be even crazier for me, but hopefully everything will run smooth as extra virgin olive oil and there will be plenty of time for sleep, and life after Americorps work, and... and... who am I kidding?!
Oh well, I've been glancing surreptitiously at a case of redbull at the local quikie-mart... maybe one day we will have a glorious, jitter-inducing relationship.  Crash and burn or soar with redbull wings?  Anyone hear about this fellow called Icarus?  Yeah, me neither.

Speaking of Icarus, last week I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane... here's a description that I sent a friend of the couple of minutes that followed said jump out-
went something like this- flying flying flying, "okay let's go!" (from
the russian jump instructor) *fwump* (as the door to the plane slams
open) "Holy shit!" (that's me) SWWWHHHHSSSHHHHH (free fall with a few
flips thrown in) jerk/FWUMP! (parachute opening) "What the hells did you
do that for?!" (jump instructor ...again) "Oh sorry, thought you wanted me to open the chute" (me, embarrassed)... and so on.Awesome, and yes I totally wished I'd paid for the video and photos, freefall is amazing, but it's over so quickly your brain barely has time to comprehend it.  Better to have a memory you can watch over and over, instead of just confused SKY/earth/SKY/earth/SKY...

The next day, Mendocino, with it's glorious silence and calm, and oh yeah we cut and restored about two miles of trail in one day, running out of water long before we reached the end.  It's amazing what a few motivated people will do over the course of a day if you just give them the time and the opportunity.

Until next time!
