Although Spain isn't actually part of my Round the World, it is a part of my year off and I am fed up of having to fill in the location as Glossop, still, so the holiday gets a mention.

Spent a week with two of my dearest friends, Jacqueline and Helen, in a beautiful villa in Spain last week. The villa was stunning - three beds, two bathrooms and a glorious private pool. We have all had a bit of a bad time of it over the last couple of years and it was the perfect place to unwind and rejuvinate. Thank you ladies, for a spectacular holiday.

We didn't get to do much in the way of sightseeing as this holiday was all about the lazing by the pool and it was way too hot to go out for the day most days.but we did pop up to Alicante for an afternoon. Alicante is a very pretty port town, with an impressive marina full of yachts. How the other half live eh? We had a wander along the front and a very tasty paella in one of the pavement cafes before retiring back to the welcome air-con of the villa. It is somewhere that I would love to return to in the spring or autumn when the weather is more suitable for tramping around seeing the sights.

Now that I am back in the UK, I have two and a half weeks to get everything sorted out for my departure. I seem to have left a lot to the last minute, including insurance and some basic bits like a travel towel and a toiletry bag. I had better get shopping.

On an up note, I have eventually purchased a new digital camera for my travels. I wanted something a little more than a campack, but I'm not quite ready for a DSLR so after much umming and ahhing, I have bought a Fujifilm S1000FD which is a bridging camera. Yeas, it will be a bit more clunky than a compact to cart around with me but I am hoping that the cracking 12x Optical zoom and the 10mg pics will make up for that. So expect some photographic additions to the blog once I have worked it all out.
