Journey was fascinating - I was sitting in the plane at Heathrow thinking there's no way I can get from T1 to T4 in the 45 minutes I've got between flights (the Edinburgh flight was 20 minutes late) when I was met at the bottom of the steps by a nice young man with my name on his list to whisk me away in his little van right to the departure gate for the Melbourne flight. I'm so impressed by this service!

The flight to Hong Kong was a bit tedious but considering the distance it wasn't bad. I didn't sleep a wink and it was quite bizzare to watch the sun come up over China. HK was shrouded in early morning mist so there was nothing to see. The 2 hour stop over was spent walking round and round the terminal - spanking new and almost clinical.

I managed a few hours sleep on the next 8 hour leg but made the mistake of having a glass of wine with the meal. The combination of fish, white wine and ice cream didn't sit well with a bit of turbulence!

Ben was there to meet me in Melbourne. My suitcase was already on the carousel coming through. The queues for immigration control and checking the baggage were unbelievably long and tedious. I was sorry for the young famileis travelling - after all that time in the air it seemed to be totally unnecessary to have to queue for an hour to get your luggage checked. I was panicking a little as I had a present of a packet of marmite biscuits in my case and there were signs everywhere saying "no food". I got through okay!

So late Saturday night Melbourne time I was tucked up in bed and slept soundly till 11am next morning. Lainy did a great Sunday roast dinner and there were another 2 guests here and I'm afraid we started drinking about 1pm and Ben and I finished off the sambuca about 1am. I surfaced at 12.30 today and feel much better now than I deserve to be!

Ben took the day off work, which was very kind, and we walked down to Fitzroy and I've kind of got my bearings. The trams are great here and I'll get on 1 tomorrow and see where I end up! There's a huge outdoor pool about half a mile away so if the sun's shining tomorrow that's the plan.

Having an interesting time - fascinating place.

Love to all. x
