Tucked away, snug in the bosom of Switzerland and Austria, lies Liechtenstein - all 160 square km of it. It's quite literally a mountain country rising out of the flat plains of the Rhein.
The winding and twisting mountain road seemed as though, were it straightened, it would reach the moon. Passing through a tunnel we entered into the heart of the principality. A chairlift up Malbun-steg and we were rewarded with seeing four countries all at once (Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany) - at least I think we could. Snow-capped peaks in the month of June and my favourite kind of walk - all the way back down hill, pockets rich with rations of chocolate bars and granola.
Sadly we were only in Liechtenstein for an afternoon and didn't get to visit Vaduz, so I can't claim to be any authority whatsoever - but it was a treat to visit this charming tax haven whose main exports (according to the BBC) are machinery, dental products, foodstuffs and stamps...!!
