It was an early rise to catch the family on skype which was however curtailed due to a poor phone line and lack of internet credit which resulted in my return to bed as it was pouring with rain.
The poor weather left Naish and I at a loss as to what to do with ourselves so we ended up questioning the receptionist on things to do in the area when it was raining. The answer a wildlife centre which was pretty cool but not worth the excessive $30 entrance fee. We did however get to walk around with and feed kangaroos and wallabies a novelty at first but one which quickly got old and saw us head back to the hostel drenched and in search of a new distraction. What better than a game of Monopoly?! I had much practise at this game as an au pair back in August, my skills however did not stretch to being victorious over Naish, my only option then was to start enjoying Happy Hour and taking advantage of the entertainment a free Nintendo WII can provide. Which proved to be quite a lot as a few other fellow travellers decided to join in. After this it was chilling out at the bar listening to someone play some classics on the guitar and joining in with some singing every so often. All in all it was a great evening until I went to the cash machine and discovered that my Australia funds had in fact run out and that it was time to start digging into my Thailand funds a little sooner than intended.
Our 2nd morning in Port Douglas saw more pouring rain and Naish and I extremely fed up and after considering our options and realising that although very pretty there really was very little else to do in Port Douglas which left us with only one thought...to return to Cairns, a decent sized town with a cinema! So it was back to the same beds in Room 17 at Shinannigan's for yet another night. On arrival we were pleased to see that Dan had not yet departed and still remained in his same bed in Room 17 as well along with the guy with a broken foot!!!
The rest of the day was spent eating noodles and watching Alice In Wonderland at the cinema which was a disappointing film but killed some time while the rain fell. The evening has been pretty chilled out and we're ready to head off to Cape Trib tomorrow...I wonder what excitements that will hold???? So Until then...
