Where I stayed
Theres a surprisingly good live music programme not country oompah and we meet up with Fernando and Gracie from the last place we visited. They invite us to stay with them in Guadalajara, even offer us the loan of their car - result, though given Mexican driving might give it a miss.
A flyer in a bakery advertises Creel´s first ever Lucha Libre event (masked wrestlers) the town gets excited as a van with a loudspeaker blasts out details of the match
. We wouldn´t miss it for the world. We arrive early to beat the rush, survive the armed guard, frisking and serious police presence to entry a school gym of 200 kids, their parents and us! A womens´ tag team try to warm the crowd up but its rubbish. Things perk up a bt though as Skelletor v Hong Kong Phuey sendds the kids wild so wild in fact that during the break they all invade the ring and have a big scrap. Armed Police intervention is necessary. All in all a good laugh.
Still around the canyon but in a slighty larger town- its got a high street where you can tether your horse to a rail outside the shops, pavements and table football. Bike rides to valleys with names that reflect the rock formations - Frogs, mushrooms and .....the valley of erect penises. That was the indiginous Tarahumaras´name for it, the Spanish renamed it the valley of monks - we all know who was right.
