Denver Thursday September 11
Cruising 18th Street Mall was the order of the day. Plenty to look at along this 14 block pedestrian mall with a free bus up and down. Bus stops every block and arrives every couple of minutes so excellent for tired or lazy legs, or people on a schedule. Late brekky at one of the myriad coffee houses. Dropped into the Visitor Centre and loaded up with brochures for the remainder of the Colorado leg.
Off to the Colorado History Museum at 3:30. Got only a little way into the museum by 5pm close. This is a great place to get an overview of all matters Colorado - geography, history, settlement, mining, water etc etc. Could easily spend two or three hours here.
All flags at half mast today.
To Dixons for dinner for margaritas, steak (Deb) and chicken (Henry), and a glass of red - very tasty and filling!
Denver Friday September 12
Jetlag must have caught up as I woke at 2am wide awake and didn't get back to sleep until around 4am following which slept almost to 10am. Brekky at Delectable Egg which looks like a dedicated breakfast & lunch spot (closes early afternoon). Good choices and reasonable prices for breakfast.
Museums this afternoon - Deb back to Colorado History Museum to complete the exercise, Henry to Byers Evans House Museum.
Byers Evans House viewing is by guided tour only which was very informative. Small group of nine or ten and a comprehensive tour of the house which was built by Mr Byers but sold to Mr Evans six year later and stayed in the Evans family for the next 70 or 80 years. Great snapshot in time as almost all of the furnishings and bric a brac are from the Evans family, the wood floors original and the wallpaper faithful reproduction (except for one section which has the 1912 original).
Can't say much more about the history museum except that Deb arrived at 1:30 for the second instalment and the staff had to push her out the door at 5pm as she completed all the sections. As I mentioned in the last entry this museum worth a visit.
Walked past Coors Field to Commons and Union Station
Back to the hotel - here's a few snaps
To Mongolian BBQ for dinner on Wazee just near the Oxford - good tasty fare, reasonable price and bustling atmosphere.
