Where I stayed

We made our way out into the Atlantic today to make our way down the New Jersey Coast. It was a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine, but there was an unfortunate lack of wind. We tried to sail for about an hour in the morning, but it just wasn't happening. We fired up the engine and motored all day down the coast. After a while, we decided we might as well put Pepe, the autopilot, to work. We had a pretty relaxing day, reading, soaking up the sun, and doing a few random projects on the boat, keeping an eye on Pepe, making sure we stayed on a good heading and paid mind to the local fishing boat traffic. Not a whole lot to report. Just motoring around Barnegat Light Harbor as we speak to steal internet from the local (private) yacht club before dropping the hook for the night. Sorry it's taken so long to get these posts up. Hope all is well. Keep the comments coming - we love reading them.

Nice job guys: S 2's rock on.
When you guys hit the ICW make sure you double and triple check your depth gauge. It needs to read perfectly. It gets shallow and it happens fast. I ran aground drinking coffee on a curve. Stare at that depth gauge and zig zag to always find deeper water. We took the Dismal swamp route to Elizabeth city where there is a free dock and they love boaters and the music is good too.

El Vagabundo has arrived in Savannah Ga. We are at a dock at a friends of David's and no rush to leave. Savannah is beautiful, big oak trees with spanish moss, parks, old estates and a great nightlife. The weather is dry 70's and 40's at night. There is a free dock in downtown Savsannah that we will stay at when we leave here.

Today was a big day for me and a very successful one at that. I pulled the transmission and replaced the rear main seal and put it back together, changed filters and fluids. All this with no broken bolts or screw ups. I am tired from climbing in and out of the hole. I did find a broken motor mount so I will do some hunting tomorrow but the Yanmar distributor is in Atlanta so parts are just a day out.

If I can be of any help let me know.

Keep the comments coming, but no whining! Everyone in the whole who comes in the Fishmonger doors, yells: "where are they?" of course, meaning "they" : you. How does it feel to know you are the topic of conversation in the hole at most times? Ob, I'm jealous and just can't handle the attention you are receiving. But, I'll let it go, knowing that you are doing something that most humans only dream of and some of us talk about doing. If Grady weren't here, I'd be more jealous and less distracted by his constant rediculousness and surprising ablility to continuing pulling madd chicks. Say goodbye to Quicks Hole, cause they're done. You missed smashing bottles to show admiration for Steph's great chefery and that's about it. Ellie, you missed Charlene's (shaaaleene) baby shower in which i supplied Rocawear onesies. "(Quaaaaters? anyone?)" it was a blast! WE MISS YOUR UGLY MUGS!

Thanks you guys. It is great to hear how everyone is doing, because we only get to hang out with each other. I have only talked to Ellie and Connor for two days now. Tonight is the first for a while with internets ack-sess, pretty fun.

KG man good work on that engine! We will be making fast and serious moves to get into the solidly warm weather before resting up and resupplying.

I love this and love you all. Have a blast and keep on posting! It's a hoot. Thanks for making my sales conference the best yet! Spent six hours at EWR so was bummed I didn't hang out and watch you motoring down the Hudson. Ah well. I was happy to see how nice a day it was for being on the water against the snow that met me when I finally got back to Minneapolis.

Thanks Ellie for the updates! I'm still waiting to see Connor's name at the end of one.
First you almost lost the dingy and now Connor, I'm glad that's over with and you can sail along with no excitement. Theses posts will be fun even if they are not exciting.
Well got to go put more wood in the stove.

I love that you guys really did it. When I was in WH, it just didn't sound like it would happen. Sometimes you just have to go for it right?

Keep the posts coming!
Good luck!

Nice going all. We are not sure that Connor is really on the Hejira, as he hasn't posted once...hint. Though there was one picture of him, we couldn't tell if it was an old scarecrow or an effigy of him. After being the scribe on the Allagash trip, we'd like to hear from you, Connor!
