Adios Lianne, but Hola David!!  After more than 18 hours travelling we finally found our hotel in Antigua ;-)  Hot showers!!  Antigua is a beautiful, but I must also mention that the scenery travelling through Honduras and El Salvador was a little depressing as I`m not going to get to those countries on this trip.  It was so nice to meet up with Dave and also get all the little bits from home.

Antigua is a lovely town to walk around, grab a coffee, do some shopping, receive another birthday present!  But the nicest part had to be the Hotel Santo Domingo which is built on the ruins of a monastery.  It is beautifully done and houses a lovely museum and art gallery, where com temporary items are displayed with ancient Mayan ones which really impresses on you just how little art and people have changed.  The town is nestled between 3 or 4 volcanoes and affords beautiful sunsets from the Sky bar

One of the highlights of my trip had to be visiting Volcan Pacaya.  It's a nice hike up which rewards you with a nice view towards Guatemala City with other volcanoes around, but then you have the lava and magma of Pacaya itself tumbling down the other side--there were red-hot boulders at least the size of cars and probably bigger tumbling down!  Then you, against all good sense, walk over in that direction to get a better view and to actually walk on the just-crusted over lava.  I was loving the heat as my thermostat is all messed up, but it was incredible!!  You could see bits of shoes that had just melted off and I could just imagine how easy and awful it would be to step on something that might move or give way!  It really was an amazing sight for which I had no camera unfortunately, so hopefully Dave will upload some of his pics when he gets home :)  We also got there for sunset which was beautiful, but the colour of the lava was even more pronounced after dark.  A very memorable day.
