Today was definitely not the day to improve our carbon footprint on this earth. While generally we do try to conserve energy, plant veggies in our garden as organically as we possibly can, compost, recycle, etc. today was not the day for environmental love. Geoff and I departed our house at around 7am to make it to the Dallas Sewell Hummer dealership by 8 to join a 60 car convoy to Glen Rose, Texas, a 2 hour drive. In a Hummer. I will not spare the details of how much gas we consumed today, because we had such a fun time, and sometimes that just outweighs the cons. In Glen Rose, we arrived at Rough Creek Lodge, where we were greeted by Sewell staff who alerted us that we had a bit of time to register, get some breakfast, wander around, then make it back to the trucks to start the smaller 10 car convoy, off-road. Geoff of course was driving, but I had just as much fun sitting and swearing in the passenger seat filming video, and taking some still photos. We went up hills and rocks, then down hills and rocks, into the river, then through the river. We had a blast. We stopped and were fed halfway through the day, and then made it to the Big hill. We watched the car in front of us get stucked, and had to back up a bit to finally shoot up the hill. By the time it was our turn, the people that made it before us had jumped out of their trucks to take photos and video of our ascent up the rocky hill. Geoff of course drove it like a pro, and got a thumbs up from the guides for doing such a fantastic job. We then got out to watch a few more come up the huge hill, but then the only bright yellow Hummer in our group got STUCK! And not just stuck, but apparently he had a nail in his tire, so as he was coming up the rocks, the nail popped out, and started leaking air so much that he couldnt get any traction. Finally someone pulled him with a tow line, and the Sewell staff changed his tire at the top of the hill. (Luckily they come with a full sized spare in the back). At the end of the course, our final task was to drive straight down into a huge puddle, around a curve and across a river. Geoff really wanted to get the truck dirty, so he gunned it through the mud. Needless to say, he made a huge mess, and when we were finally driving back to the lodge, where we were greated by a fabulous buffet, which of course we ate. It was approximately 100 degrees outside, so rather than stick around after lunch, we decided to go home to the pool to cool off. Overall, we had a fun day!
