On Thursday March 13th/ Friday March 14th, Geoff and were very excited to finally start our trip to Europe. We started from DFW to JFK, then JFK to London Heathrow, then from London to Munich Airport. I know, what a lot of planes, but the tickets were very cheap, and absolutely made it worth the hopping. In Munich we took the S-Bahn to our destinations. (Schnell Bahn means Fast Train, it is the above ground transportation system in Germany. They also have a U-Bahn, which is basically the subway underground). We arrived at Laim Station, which was ours, and Geoff pointed us in the right direction toward our hotel. Thanks to my friend Fran from France, who lives in the states, she told us to get cheap-o umbrellas that we could toss if we needed too- It was raining, slightly, so right off the train we needed our $2.50 umbrellas on our walk- We already got our moneys worth and it hadn't even been a full day! We made it to our hotel, Hotel Laimer Hof and checked in with the staff. This is a wonderful hotel, with great English speaking staff if you need it (My German is very minimal- like I can say the standards- yes, no, plus "I don't understand", "Can I have a Menu" and "where is the Bathroom" so we got by) Hotel Laimer Hof

. Meanwhile, the staff that helped us said he knew a little English (which he said in German, and I understood) and it turns out he had very good English. Guess he is just modest.  He pointed us in the perfect direction for dinner to the Hirschgarten, which is Munich's largest beer garden and within walking distance to the hotel! Did I mention that we were pretty much hoofing it along this trip? Anyway, the food was great, I ordered something that on the English menu looked like it would be vegetarian, but it turned out to be some type of Schnitzle with a side of noodles. Oh, and some beer of course. Actually a lot of beer. I spent my time sneaking my mysterious meat to Geoff, which he very nicely ate for me, making it look like I was a good American eating the German delicacies. Afterward, we went back to our hotel to await the next day.
