Adios Santiago!
Entry 4 of 11 | show all | print this entry |
Hello again! Well today is the last day in Santiago. In about 30 minutes the group is headed to Puerta Plata to begin the second portion of the trip... the work project. I'lll be going to a city called Sosua which is in the northern part of the Dominican and my host mom says the people are nice. Yay for nice people! Last night was the last hoorah with our Spanish teachers. The Spanish institute is actually not part of ISV... they're their own deal. The teachers were great. They taught us how to cook tostenos, and dance the merengue, the bachata, and a little bit of the salsa... the salsa is very difficult. We went to Montezuma- a local eatery/bar/dance club and practiced the dances we've been learning. A lot of the host brothers and sisters came and it was so great! My mom is really crazy. She was the only host mom there- but she was kicking it like the rest of us. She's great. :0) That's about it for now. It still hasn't rained yet, so I'm eagerly awaiting what I think will be fantastic. The lightning here is amazing though. But you can't hear the thunder. I asked my mom about it and she said that sometimes you can hear it, sometimes you can't. That's different. So you see these huge cracks of lightning and silence. Insane. The Dominican culture is really unique. So many different types of people- but all Dominican. Love you all. And chat at you sooner than later... Amor, Heidi
