Where I stayed
Lake Tekapo Motor Caravan motel
We booked into our motel and went out for a chinese meal in the Jade Palace, there was a coach party of Chinese people, which made it seem very authentic. We returned to our motel but had a major problem, we were inundated with bugs, Laura could not sleep and although we were due to stay 2 days booked out a day early. The motel was the worst we had stayed in, tired décor and poor facilities including broken extractor fan and smoke alarm. Disgusting!!
We booked out early and drove towards Lake Tekapo on highway 80 and 8. The roadside was covered in Lupins amazing colours and scent. We passed a sign for an observatory and cafe. 1500 metres up a steep winding road were three telescopes, one an 1.8 metre MOA scope. Plus the bonus of a cafe serving a delicious array of savoury and sweet treats. Dave had a cream tea with fruit scone. We then went to a shopping precinct for gas and then onto the Church of the Good Shepherd. This was built in oak and stone in 1935 on the banks of the Lake. The church was open and we met the vicar who had a wedding at 14.00. Above the alter was a window looking out across the lake and surrounding snow covered mountains. there was a carpet of Lupins on the banks, perfume and colour everywhere.
