We've been talking about finishing out our travel blog, so here is another entry.
We stayed at Pollywogg Holler in New York for our last stop on our work exchange journey. Pollywogg is an eco-resort managed by Bill Castle and his family. Here is the link http://www.pollywoggholler.com. Bill is a master craftsman who built all of the structures as well as the furniture at the resort. Follow this link http://www.motherearthnews.com/Green-Homes/Timber-Frame-Homes.aspx to read an article about Bill published in Mother Earth News.
Most of our time was spent helping Bill build a new cabin called the Sugar Shack at the resort. What made this so unique was that we were not buying any of the lumber needed for this project
We also did odd maintenance jobs including: cutting up trees that fell during a storm, splitting logs for fire wood, and maintaining paths. One of our favorite jobs was to prepare and cook pizzas in the outdoor brick oven for twice weekly pizza night. It was a lot of fun and the pizza was delicious. They even had a band playing on Sunday pizza day, which made for a great atmosphere.
Bill and his family were great hosts. We also especially liked the town of Angelica, which was nearby. The houses in the town were very quaint and we found a bar/restaurant that we really liked. Angelica also hosted the county fair while we were there, which was quite a treat.
