London Special Olympic Edition!!!!!!!

We had planned a quiet day catching up on our web site work but saw on the morning TV that Trafalgar Square would be the venue for a free concert, voting and actual announcement would be beamed on big screens. So a day earlier than originally planned we went into town on the underground tube. As it turned out later this was one of the best decisions we made (even in our life perhaps!) given the events that followed the next day.
We got in fairly early and took up a position on the edge of the fountain which gave us a seat of some sorts
. As the voting progressed more and more people crowded into the square and we were given flags and stickers. The mood was really whether we win or lose the concert will go ahead and London would have benefited from all the improvements done to the city already in the hope of having the 2012 Olympics. I don't think Londoners were really that confident that they would win. It was such an amazing atmosphere and after the announcement there was a massive release of ticker tape, jets flying over and screaming, yelling and dancing around.
On arriving back at Graham and Rachels (UK friends we met in Cape York) flat we prepared a celebratory dinner and had a wonderful night oblivious to what would unfold the next day...........
This is a special edition to celebrate that we were in Trafalgar Square for the big announcement that London had won the bid for the 2012 games. What an exciting day! There were 11,000 people in the square and a live concert of the best of British talent. Then when the announcement came mayhem broke out as everyone screamed, yelled, cheered and celebrated.
