Friday night finally came!! So I went with Russell and Peter to a Christmas party with a bunch of the foreign teachers at the Live Bench. Its a nice little bar where they have live music. There were about 20 of us there and it was basically our bar for the evening. They gave us christmas hats to wear with flashing lights on them and to get a beer we just walk behind the counter and get one from the cooler. We got there a little late because we work so much later than a lot of the other teachers, and also had to stop off for gifts. We had a white elephant gift exchange even though some of the gifts turned out to be pretty cool. When we got there June, who runs the bar, and Kelly playing and we just listened to their music. They are pretty great technically and play a lot of songs that we could recognize and sing a long to. After a little while we did the gift exchange and I came away with a book called learn to speak Korean in 40 minutes and some Korean condoms. I ended up leaving with a hand wamer instead of the condoms though. After that we ordered pizza and sang some Karaoke. I've never done Karaoke with a live band before but it was pretty cool. We had some pretty good singers, and some...well...some that sing at the same level as me. I didn't make it on stage at this point, but I didn't hear anybody complaining.
After a while Gary pulled out a Christmas quiz and we teamed up to take it. Francis, Russell and I were the "rockin cocker spaniels" All I have to say is we totally rocked it and swept the competition. We won 30,000 wan to split, which was great. There were a couple of good jokes on the quiz too, like "what do you call somebody who is afraid of santa clause?" (a: a Claustrophobic) or "Why is santa so happy?" (a: he knows where all of the naughty girls live) We also had to play the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon game with Santa clause...we definitely rocked that one.
Soon after that a lot of people left, but Eldry, Francis, Thomas, Russell, and I stuck around. Francis played some more bass with the band and we did a little more karaoki. My favorites were when Russell sang "life goes on" and we all rushed the stage to sing with him and when I sang "its raining men!".
So that brings us up to about 2:30am and I had to leave by 9:45am to go into Seoul for a training, so we headed for home. Good food, good friends, good music...a successful Christmas celebration!!
