Can't even explain how overwhelming/stressful/comical the past few days have been!  I truly wish someone had videotaped me attempting to get my multiple suitcases all across Paris (from Basel to the train, from train to train, from the train to the hotel in Paris, from the hotel to my homestay) I'm sure I would have died laughing watching myself, however at the time it couldn't have been more stressful!!  (Picture me schlepping all my shit down a picturesque rue, and then not being able to enter the door code correctly to enter my apartment building and therefore just looking like I'm trying to break into this really upscale apartment!)  Obviously I blended in REAL well with all the amazingly dressed Parisians swiftly walking down the road....

As if getting bombarded with a million pieces of information about where I'm living, when my classes start, etc, etc upon arriving in Paris wasn't enough, there also happened to be a STRIKE the day after I got here.  See, in Paris, they have strikes all the time.  Like they just decide they're pissed about something and so then they plan a single day strike where practically none of the Metro trains are going to function. Cool.  (As if they don't already take enough vacation time as it is!!!)

Anywayssss, I'm finally settled into my homestay!  I'm living with a French couple who live alone.  They have 2 kids but they are older (20's) and don't live here.  They also have a dog that lives here :)  So cute, her name is Mandoline.  I live like a block from the Opera building so it's a gorgeous neighborhood.  Absolutely breathtaking.   It's been a bit of an adjustment, but it's going well. A lot of things are very different here...such as their showers. They have a tub, without any sort of curtain or door to close, and there is a handheld sprayer, but nothing to hang it on.  I might as well be standing in the middle of the bathroom!  I have to stand there and hold the shower above my head. It's been interesting to say the least...Also, my family doesn't speak any english so it's non-stop French now.  They had a bunch of people over for dinner, so I was secretly freaking out just trying to keep up with what the hell was going on at the dinner table (7 people speaking French at once, quickly). haha I did better than I thought I would though!  Basically being forced into fluency...I wish it'd come faster though!!

I'm going to explore more of Paris this weekend once I finally have some time to myself!
So far just lots of fromage, baguettes, vin, et chocolat :) The French don't disappoint.

Mom on

What a lovely house you live in! Can you take a picture of your room? I remember now how beautiful the Opera house is!
