A short drive to Serbia today and the nice weather continued. We got through the border with no issues and everything went smoothly until Tom announced that we had reached our destination.  Unfortunately we were on a dual carriageway with absolutely nothing in our vicinity.  We couldn't hold Tom responsible this time though.  This lapse was down to the co-ordinates we had downloaded for campsites in Europe.  But I gave Tom a dirty look anyway and we drove on to a town called Palic, close to Hungary, which Tom believed contained a couple of other campsites.  They would probably be closed at this time of year, but there is always the chance of parking at a closed campsite if the owners live on-site.  On the way, in a Serbian village, we came across the most extraordinary statue we are likely to see on the entire trip.  You will know what I mean when you look at the pictures.

When we arrived in Palic, a popular summer getaway on a lake, we weren’t able to find Tom’s campsites.  We drove to the lake to have a look around and stopped in the car park to ask at an information booth about places to stay.  On the off chance it might be OK I asked about simply staying the night in the car park, and happily the lady there said she thought it would be fine.  So off went the engine and we noticed that we were not only beside a lake but also a large playground.  The boys went straight out and spent two hours playing.  Beside the car park there was also a nice-looking restaurant, so we decided to eat out for dinner and have a Serbian meal.  The boys and I all ate schnitzel so it was an Austrian meal, but cooked by Serbians so that counts.  We aren’t staying long in Serbia, but stumbling upon this lake made for a nice one-night stay here.
