Feeling refreshed after a rather long sleep, we left our hostel in Philadelphia early this morning to catch the subway to the train station. We almost didn't fit through the one-way metal gates with our duffels on our backs, but after a bit of pushing and shoving we were through. At the train station, we grabbed some pretzels for breakfast and a greasy man tried sweet-talking me which made me feel dirty. We bought a magazine for the train to Boston, purely based on the the fact that it advertised a competition for 'America's Cutest Kitten' haha.

We got onto the train at half past nine and were into Boston at around 3.30pm, travelling pas the Newark Hilton Airport in New York, where our adventure began, along the way. We pulled into Back Bay Station and walked through the South End neighbourhood to find our hostel. The buildings were lovely, and our first impression was that it looked very much like a big clean English town. The hostel was a little...creepy looking, when we first rocked up. It was a strange looking combination hostel and residential building for older people with mental and physical disabilities, which we hadn't realised at first. Once we were in to our room and had spent some time in it, though, it was really nice. It even had a free popcorn machine in the chill-out area, which was cool. We did some laundry - our last load of the trip, as our apartment in New York doesn't have laundry and we were fairly desperate for fresh clothes!

After this, we decided to head out to have a little investigate of the area we were staying in. We didn't really have long enough to head into the city centre, so we walked around until we found a lovely little restaurant called Jeffrey's, run by a gay man in honour of his late partner of the same name. The steak we had was really good, although we looked a little out of place in our shorts and t-shirts in the middle of all the well dressed gentlemen we were dining with! Oh well, we had our British charm going for us...!

When we were done eating, we continued our little walk around the neighbourhood, before heading back to the hostel for the evening. We've only got two days in the Boston area and the second one we're spending in Salem, so tomorrow is going to be jam-packed!
