Friday 31st - Welton- Northants

8 mile
6 locks
1 tunnel (1.25 miles long)

Had a good day. Stopped at Braunston for a bit of a shop and lunch. Bryan and I went in different directions and both found old friends to talk to. We went up the 6 double locks with another boat whose crew were not totally confident about what they were doing but were very friendly and helpful and did very well. They were obviously even less confident about tackling the tunnel as they crawled towards it and took about five minutes to get from being in front of the tunnel entrance to getting in the tunnel itself. We decided it might be a good idea to moor up for a while and have a cuppa. We set off about 25 minutes later to find that they had got safely through and we could go through at normal pace. Turned onto the Leicester Branch and found a Charis sized space just waiting for us and found friends we were talking to earlier in the day moored up two boats ahead. Bryan is out there now with his whisky bottle chatting on the towpath. All being well we should be in Crick tomorrow.
