After an early night and a late lie in, we go for breakfast and take our first look at the port of Colombo, in Sri Lanka. We sit outside and Martin is protesting weakly that he wants to go shore and see the city. However, common sense prevails and the intense heat together with his assorted aches and pains means that he is finally persuaded to go to the room and lie down.
I take my iPad and after a walk around the ship to see what I can see I settle down to re read one of my favourite books, Shantaram
I return to my wanderings and this is a very busy and therefore fascinating port. I watch the bustling of people busy sorting the goods being shipped in and out all over the world. In the midst of all this man made chaos, nature still has the ability to cause wonder. Butterflies flutter around the ship, yet it is hard to see a flower or plant. As I stand on the top looking across at the city I see eagles flying in graceful circles overhead, and a huge shoal of fish swimming very close to the surface.
More honey and lemon and the poor invalid manages to make it out for some dinner and another early night. Fortunately we have a day at sea tomorrow so he can continue his recuperation. Hopefully he will start feeling better soon. Ironic isn't it, 4 months across Asia, trouble free, less than a week on a ship and he has man flu. :s.
