At the beginning of the week, Jim told me that I just needed an "attitude adjustment" about Oregon.  It's not really that bad here, he claimed, and if I wanted to enjoy it then I could and I would.
Plus, he felt that we should not necessarily document ALL of our troubles on the blog, because it might scare off any of you fine folks who may be thinking about buying an RV and joining us in future years!

After suppressing the urge to strangle him..............   >:|

(I did tie his hoodie sweatshirt closed though, that ought to fix him!)    ;)

And after grappling with the morality of obviously and intentionally biased journalism..............   >:P

I considered his advice and decided that maybe, just maybe,
he could be right!

As a result I decided not to publish a few additional "minor changes" -- which is, if you recall, what he called every problem we had on our inaugural trip!  Although come to think of it now, he WAS right about that part for sure - the only setbacks we had on that trip really WERE minor!  Ah, the irony.  :P

Anyway, I thought I was doing pretty good at presenting only the positive side of RV life - riparian parking spots, cute kittens out for strolls, yummy clam chowder - sound familiar?  Until tonight, that is, when I had the singular opportunity to photograph some unfortunate RV owners who actually had to break into their own motorhome.

Yes, that's right folks, the poor RV got so tired of the abuse that it tried to lock its own people out.
I can just hear it now:  "No more traveling, puh-LEASE!!!!!"

It was right about then that my reporting ethics (and my morbid sense of humor!) got the better of me and I decided that the truth will set you free!!!  So here is a list of additional things we've broken during my week of positivity:

Action:  Put our slide out while completely ignoring the computer voice that tells you to "check area around slide-out room to ensure adequate travel clearance".
Result:  Bent electric hookup box.
Cost:  Our apologies to the RV park (we tried to bend it back!).  :(

Action:  Unknown.  Somehow our tow bar came loose and dragged on the ground behind the motorhome for several miles as we drove.  (We were not pulling the truck at the time or that couldn't have happened.)
Result:  Hitch ends are mangled beyond repair.
Cost:  ~$800 for new tow bar.  :(

Action:  Going into and out of the motorhome using the front door.
(Oh, how dare we??!?)
Result:  Door/latch mechanism finally rendered unserviceable.
(This is a recurring problem and Jim is always able to fix it...  For a week or two...  And then the bolts slacken up and the problem rears its ugly head again.)  This time it had been getting progressively worse for some weeks and we knew when we left for dinner in town that not being able to get back in was a very real possibility - so we left a living room window cracked open and a ladder handy!  And here they are, the promised pictures of us sneaking in through an open window when we returned.  ;)
Cost:  Unknown, Jim is currently trying to fix this himself...  Again...
We'll let you know.

I know, I know -
Surely you are wondering right now who we've pissed off to deserve such bad luck!

(So are we!)

Or maybe you are questioning how idiots like us went 3,000 miles on not one but TWO previous trips and are only now managing to break almost everything on our third (time's a charm) trip!

(So are we!)

But as usual, Jim swears to me that things are going to start improving.  Actually, please note the good-natured grins on our faces as we thwart our RV's feeble attempts to prevent future travels!  By now so many things have gone wrong that we have finally ceased worrying so much.

For the duration of the weekend we are going to leave the motorhome parked - Can't do much damage THAT way... Right??? - and go into town for some good food and glassblowing lessons!  And then of course we'll be back in the fix-it shop first thing Tuesday morning.  :P

Have a nice long weekend, y'all!
