The Cultural Show in Kandy
Although the mattress on the floor was comfortable, I still didn't sleep well last night. I think I need to get some pills or something. After breakfast at the house I made my way into town to the Air Lanka office to make another date change. On my way down there I bumped into a local man, he told me he was a dance teacher at a school near the lake. He told me he was on his way to a class and invited me to come along. We walked up to this school, there was a lesson going on but I don't think it was a dance class, there were hundreds of students all packed into a hall, where one tutor was giving a lecture (see pic). The man then took me into this room that had lots of paintings on the wall, there he introduced me to a lady who told me the school was an arts school for orphaned children (there were apparently a lot of orphans there!)
I got to the Air Lanka office and changed my departure date from the 25th to the 27th of Feb. while I was down there I also changed my Singapore to Melbourne flight from the 1st of April to the 1st of May (I'll be lucky to get there by then at this rate!).
I went to the post office next to post some postcards I had brought in Newara Eliya. It was around midday by the time I got out of there, and I was glad to have my umbrella with me as the sun was beating it down. As I walked along the edge of road that goes arounfd the lake I saw this 'thing' in the lake, it was like a cross between a crocodile and a big lizard, take a look at the picture and decide for yourself! Back at the house I met a couple there from Manchester
After the film I made my way back to Kandy town by bus, it was about 5pm the time I reached town and it started to rain a little. The umbrella that I had used earlier to keep the rays of was now doing the same with the rain. I walked up to the Cultural Centre, which was on the other side of the lake from the house. The show started at 6pm and was an hour long, the venue was full of Europeans. The show was quite good and there were lots of different types of Lankan Dances (see vid), they also did fire walking at the end.
I came back to the house for around 7.30pm, and had dinner with Dan and Becky. I am going to Sigriya tomorrow, its about 3 hours away and I plan to come back to same day so I need to make an early start. The original plan was to move up to a place called Dambula because it's near to Sigria, but I can't be bothered moving all my stuff and I like it here in Kandy, the Pink House is a great place to stay.
