Day one of our Delhi trip
Today was really hard work! We got on the train at 6am and it took a good six hours to get here, the train journey was ok but the girls were both feeling unwell, it turns out they both have diarrhoea (or as we like to call it runny poo), it must be something they ate yesterday. They managed to keep them selves and the rest of our carriage entertained (see vid), they didn't really eat anything on the train but Din made a good few cups of tea, she's quite the expert now! We got to the MADNESS that is Delhi train station and tried to get an auto rickshaw to one of the hotels I had details for. They guy at the prepaid stand said it was within walking distance (which was nice of him!) so we decided to walk...that place is just MAD! There are people, cars, rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, motor bikes and scooters everywhere
! some going into the station, others going out but most of them are just kind of stuck there!!! We started to walk toward the direction of the hotels in Paharganj, we were approached by a few people asking us if we wanted a hotel room, at very cheep rates, of course! Anyway this one guy was very persistent so we followed him to a couple of places, they were all full, we finally got to a place called Roopkala, it's a 3star and quite new so we got a room there. while we were following the tout, we went through some rough looking streets, it was a bit scary at times, and having the girls with me I guess we should have stuck to the main road but having travelled in India before I have this sense of being safe here, I don't know quite what it is but it's there. We put our stuff in the room and went straight back out for food, the girls wanted to go McDonalds, and I thought it was the safest bet for them, we got in an auto rickshaw to Canought Place, it broke down half way and we ended up getting a regular rickshaw the rest of the way. They both had meals and Din got a toy with her happy meal, that kept her entertained for a bit. We came back to the hotel in an auto rickshaw, the girls were feeling tired after there early start and had a knap at around 3pm. I spoke to the travel agent in the hotel and booked a taxi for this evening to take us out in Delhi, A taxi for tomorrow to go sight seeing in Delhi, we also spoke about a buss trip to Agra to see the Taj and sight seeing on the last day. When I tried to wake Din to go out in the evening she wasn't having any of it!, she had a slight temperature so we decided to just chill in the room instead, we ordered food there. I have been out to the pharmacist to get them medication for the run's, I hope it starts working soon, Din really needs to start eating, I don't think she has been eating properly the last couple of weeks. I hope she is feeling up to going out tomorrow, we are only here for a few day's and unless we get out there we're not going to get to see much. The weather is much warmer here than in Punjab, I'm hoping that will make the girls feel better and get motivated.
