Day 26 Sun 16th Oct 2005
The wedding
What a day! It was emotional and hectic but most all totally draining! We left home around 10am and got into Jalandhar around 11. We went straight to the palace (banqueting hall), the grooms side had just arrived as we got there. There were sooooo many people in the hall, I met up with loads of people from the home (UK). The immediate family (inc. me) went to the temple around midday for the actual wedding ceremony, this took around 1 hour (which I quick for an Indian wedding). Then we all went back to the palace for the cutting of the cake and the usual festivities, yep loads of food and too much drink! One of the most memorable things of the day was the entertainment, they had a DJ and special guest appearances from Jazzy B and Babu Mann! Well they were kind of look-alikes, I say kind of because they didn't look anything like them! Check out the video clips and you'll see what I mean. I tried to enjoy my self but I have found over years that girl's weddings leave me in a sombre mood. It's that whole leaving home and going into a new family thing, if you're Indian you will know what I mean. I know it's an old fashioned concept and most people don't think like this anymore but hey, maybe I'm just showing my age again! Wish Poonam and her husban, Gurcharan the very best for their future together.
Mum & Dad came home around 4 to star their packing and I stayed in Jalandhar for the departure of the Doli. I got a taxi back to Pind and arrived around 9.30, the taxi had a DVD player and screen in it! Apparently it's all the rage at the minute.
We are leaving at 6.30 in the morning for the airport, not looking forward to the early morning start but we are going to Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) first so its worth it.
I could really do with a few days of chill time right now, after Mum & Dad go that's what I'll do!
