Greetings! We left Longview, WA this morning and headed out for the
Oregon coast. Our first stop was Astoria, Oregon along Route 30 at the top of
the Oregon coastline. We decided to stop at the Columbia River Maritime Museum
in Astoria – good decision. There were wonderful displays of life and work on
the Columbia River. The area is commonly called the “Graveyard of the Pacific”
for the amount of sunken ships and lost lives due to the convergence of the
Columbia River at the Pacific Ocean causing wild waters
uses this area for elite training for motor life-guard boats. We have a picture of a life-size
display of a water rescue - amazing. We spent more than a couple of hours there
wandering through the many displays and watching a movie made for the museum.
Right outside of the museum a restored trolley car ran a 4-mile round-trip
along the coastline of Astoria – a fun and relaxing ride. We then stopped in at
the Rogue Brewery for a late lunch before heading south on the 101 to go a
little further before finding a place to spend the night. What a Gorgeous trip!
It really is getting difficult to
find adjectives to describe the land we have had the privilege of traveling
throughout. After wondering if we would find a place on a Saturday night in a
popular destination without reservations, we ended up at the Surfside Resort in
Rockaway Beach, OR
area, living room, two baths and a king bedroom, plus a fireplace (the only room he had available) all at an
80’s price – a price that we thought would be difficult to find for a room by
itself! (Oh, and obviously Wi-Fi service!) We ended our day a little earlier
and stopped at a grocery store for supplies for a light supper, breakfast and a
picnic lunch tomorrow, with more coastline to explore. Hope to update again
