Where I stayed
Kathmandu - Student Guesthouse
The monastery is called Sange Goling monastery and we were going to meet the little monks that lived there we obvioulsy had no idea what to expect as everything is that laid back here its unbelieveable. We finally found the monastery and we were greeted by one of the older monks who was in charge of the kids, we said "Namaste" nice to meet you, the monastery is very impressive to look at and its a strange feeling but very peaceful and calm. We were shown our classroom where we would teach (just a room with a whiteboard and one pen no desks or anything!). The little monks were all together in one of the other room and we then went in to meet them having no idea how many there would be, when we walked into the room there was about 30 little monks all sitting crossed legged reading their bible and chanting
We had arranged to go to the orphange in the afternoon so we headed there next 30 kids live in the orphanage all together we met them all they were lovely. I could have bought some of them back with me no problem
We planned the lessons for the next day and then retired very excited. Next day we got the local bus to work another mad experience! We arrived at the monastery we would be treaching two class one 9 - 10 and one 10 - 11. We were in classroom and the little monks atarted arriving coming in with their cushions to sit on and their books and worn our pencils they all said good morning Gemma good morning Joe as they entered the room, all nerves soon went away when we began teaching the first class were less advanced we asked them if they remembered how old we were and where we were from they are so cute they all giggled but when you tell them something they all chant and repeat you its their way of learning. The first lesson went well we played some games and tryed to teach them some new words
Next day we were greeted by both classes waiting for us they are getting excited now when we arrive Class 1 were so cute all filed in saying morning miss morning Joe class 2 are a bit momre cheeky they say hi Gemma hi Joe but they are all good and want to learn they love hupla and we have to play it every day to keep their attention half way through the lesson, I did a little aerobic session with them they loved it!
We fly over Mount Everesy today was fabulous (little scary) we have today (friday) and saturday off so we are off to a country place to stay the night I will update more when we get back pics etc as the car is waiting for us to go.
Loving every minute we want to bring the monks back with us.
Lots of love xxxx
