Not seeing anywhere to stay here in Sagres or indeed on the way in, we decided to return to Carvoeiro, where I had seen a hotel near the sea.

On the way back we stopped at a super market for wine and nibbles, if we were going to stop somewhere then we could at least enjoy it. Finally back at Carvoeiro, we pulled up to the hotel and it was closed. I asked at a nearby bar for hotels and was told there some up a side road.

OK, first hotel - closed. The next hotel was a large 'resort', surely they wouldn't be open at this time? They were, the price was (very) reasonable for the size and facilities and we booked in, settled in and enjoyed the wine, whilst watching the sea roll in against the cliffs below our room's balcony. Dinner was in the hotel dining room and then a good night's, comfortable sleep.

Sunday December 14th.

A late start, good breakfast and then a short drive to look around the area in the showery sunshine. The cliffs and shoreline of the 'Portugese Algarve' are reputed to be spectacular and in this, not over touristy, area we visited a couple of beaches surrounded by great cliffs and rock pinnacles.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing in the hotel, ready to move on up country tomorrow.
