A dull morning and it started to rain as we set off heading westwards. Norah had wanted to see some of Portugal and this was not at its most attractive. Taking the southerly quiet road we came across more ghost towns, an enormous one at 'Albufera', all closed up and hardly anyone around.

It was now raining steadily and the countryside was drenched, rolling hills, interspersed with towns. We turned down to visit 'Carvoeiro', an attractive town that at least had some people around, even if many shops were closed. We stopped for a coffee and then continued.

The bigger towns we didn't want to stay in and the smaller towns we couldn't stay in. The weather worsened until it was pouring down, now we really felt like we were near home. Oh, the wonderful european weather!

We finally reached 'Sagres', the south western tip of Portugal. It was blowing a gale and lashing it down with rain. There was a great castle there, presumably built to defend the area but there was no way we were getting out of the car in this weather!
