We finished packing, checked out and collected the hire car, another Toyota Camry. It was mid morning when we eventually set off in the 19 deg sunshine. From the Manly peninsula we had to cross the north of the city and head west towards the 'Blue Mountains'. The very busy traffic and some poor signposting, made it nearly two hours before we cleared the last of the suburbs and reached the 'Great Western Highway'.

The road was busy with traffic and tracked the railway through the low valley, trapped between both sides of the 'Blue Mountains National Park'. We aimed for 'Wentworth Falls' and found out from the information centre that it was a three hour walk but had no water coming over it.

So going on to 'Leura', the cascades were also short of water Leura cascades

The next stop was 'Katoomba', which had several features, especially views over the Blue Mountains. We drove along the 'Cliff Drive', which was a scenic route overlooking the mountains and 'Jamison Valley'. Looking over 'Echo Point' we had some great view of the mountains and the valleys. The 'blue' in the mountains comes from them being mainly eucalyptus trees and they give off a blue haze.

We stopped at several lookouts but most were overgrown and there was no view possible. It was starting to go dark, so we moved on and found a motel in the small town of 'Blackheath'. The limited choice gave us a motel at the side of a main road and close to the railway.

The night was going quite cold and the small heater in the room struggled to give comfortable warmth. We walked to a local pub for supper and then back in the chilly night to the motel room, which had not really warmed up. We resorted to using the electric blankets, which at least ensured that we went to bed warm. We weren't able to silence the road or the railway noise though.
