We continued North from Lunenburg and called in at Mahone Bay, a pretty little town at the head of an inlet and stopped at the local cafe for breakfast.  We had been told by several people that we must visit Mahone Bay and as we drove through the town we could see why.  It is the time of their 'Scarecrow Festival' and almost every garden and business had a scarecrow or a group of scarcrows on display.  The town have really made a brilliant job and a lot of work and ingenuity has gone into it.  We hope the photos do it justice.

STOP PRESS - We are now managing to load photos into these travel logs, starting back with New York.  It may take us some time - so please keep checking back.

We moved on back towards Halifax and took one last detour down to Peggy's Cove Scarecrows Intro
Scarecrows Intro
.  This is reputed to be one of the most photographed sites in Canada and is a very pretty tiny fishing cove with a world famous lighthouse.  There isn't really a lot to see, especially as the sea mist was gradually encroaching.  We continued the trip and arrived back in Halifax.

A last evening in town was a final opportunity for a pint of Peculiar and a chat with the ever friendly barman (woman).  She asked where we were from and when we said Manchester, England she replied 'Oh I just love Coronation Street"!  I sometimes wonder just what we have imposed on the World!!!!  A supper in 'The Shoe Shop', which seems to be a converted shoe factory with a great atmosphere and good food ends our trip here.

The total driving distance in the 10 days amounted to  1800 miles.  We really feel we have seen as much as we possibly could in and around Nova Scotia.  It was what I wanted from 'The Maritimes', with its beautiful scenic bays, coves, small ports, vast expanses of forests and lakes.  The people have been wonderfully friendly and helpful.  Nova Scotia is a great area to visit.

We got the Oysters, we got the Scallops, we got the Lobster - we got to move on.
