We arrived on Wednesday and needed to kill some time before the next bus came to take us to Argentina (There are only 3 busses a week to Salta). That happened to be Friday so we had some down time in this sleepy little town. Time to catch up on blogs, send resumes to Canada and enjoy the fact that we are forced to stay still and relax for a bit!

We caught up with Alan and Mathilde, a couple that we first bumped into on Cotapaxi volcano and then again in Haunchaco. Since we ran into them again we figured it was time to meet up properly and go for a drink so we spent the next 3 nights eating good food and having a few drinks and laughs with them.

Not much else to do really; we wanted to hike up to the hot springs but they were only open on Saturdays. We had heard great things about the bike rides but it is the desert and it is hot so biking up a mountain sounded too much like hard work. Lots of cute restaurants, bars and artisan shops to keep us lazy tourists busy until that bus comes!

DAILY FACTS

- Stayed at: Hostal Katarpe. We booked into this to treat ourselves after 3 days in the desert and it was very nice, but very expensive, so we moved. Recommended if you have the cash.

- Stayed at: Hostal Vilacoya. The rooms look rubbish but the beds are very: comfortable and the rooms are warm. The shared bathroom / shower is also kept very clean and it has a nice little kitchen. And it's bloody cheap. Highly recommended.

- Out for food at: Tierra Todo Natural. Good quality vegetarian food. So nice that we went back for a second night.
