Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Steeeeeeve
Happy birthday to you!
And not just any old birthday - the big 30!!!!
Steve was still a little off from his bad tummy the day before so not super-excited to be sharing a jeep with 5 others and spending the day driving through bumpy desert but he put on a brave face as we headed out for another long day.
We began by driving through the Ejercito de Piedras ("Army of Stones" which is a field of large boulders that would be great to play hide and seek!) up to a viewpoint for the Ollague Volcano which still has a smoking vent at the side. We then continued on to see 5 different lagoons containing three species of flamingos; our favourite was the red one. We also saw an Andean fox at one of the lakes who was trying to blag some food from our table.
For those Canadians reading this you will be familiar with the common birthday prank where in the middle of the night a friend will stick plastic flamingos in your front yard to inform all those that live around you or pass your house that it is your birthday. The number of birds corresponds to the number of years the birthday boy / girl has been alive. This usually happens for big ones like 40. So I found it very fitting today that most of the day was spent looking at flamingos. I tried to tell Steve I got together 30 of the best ones to show everyone it was his birthday but he didn't believe me, probably because there were hundreds instead of 30 and they were not the best at posing together for a birthday photo.
The flamingos did their job informing everyone it was Steve's birthday because when dinner time came Rita managed to surprise Steve with a homemade heart shaped birthday cake. (Actually he had forgotten that he mentioned it would be his birthday during the trip to the owner when we signed up.) She then very kindly told Rita and out came a cake and champagne (well, cider in a champagne-style bottle actually). Very thoughtful and a nice way for Steve to end his birthday. Off to bed in the freezing cold rooms we went with full tummies and cidery breath.

Happy Three-'O'!
Happy 30th Pea-green!! Hope you're feeling better after your salt overdose and have stopped seeing flamingos.
30?
Man, I thought you were like 42? I like the new hair, very flock of seagulls. Hope you are taking care of my little sister and I am a little concerned about how often she has taken pictures of you peeing? Great shots!

Re: 30?
I like to think of his hair more as THE RESULT of a flock of seagulls flying overhead!
As for the peeing pics, he taunts me everytime, ´don´t take a picture...¨´ but then he pees right in front of everyone, not even in the bushes, what am I supposed to do?
