Wow. We thought that Kurt had it good in Lima. We've spent the weekend at the house him and his buddies rent in Paracas (just down the coast from Pisco) and we were blown away by the house that they stay in. It's a beach-front property with a swimming pool and back garden that goes right out to the water's edge. Stunning. There is a lot of glass and about 6 or 7 bedrooms which make it a very airy and open place to hang out.

Kurt and his mates come down here every second weekend to go Kiteboarding (a bit like wind-surfing except that you have to control a kite instead of a sail to give you propulsion). We drove through the Paracas National Reserve to get to a secluded surfing area right in the middle of the desert. "Watersports in the middle of the desert?" you're thinking. In Peru the thin coastal strip of land West of the Andes is all desert which makes for very boring and featureless bus journeys BBQ on our first night in Paracas

. Anyway, there wasn´t enough wind for the chaps to go Kiteboarding unfortunately but we had a go on the training kite that they use to practise their kite manouvreing skills.

This morning, we kayacked from Paracas directly south across the bay shown in this map. Apparently you can see all sorts of marine life such as dolphins and rays, but we only saw the birds that inhabit the bird sanctuary.

It's back to the backpacker lifestyle this evening as we bid farewell to our new chums and push on southward to the oasis town of Huacachina where surfing down giant sand dunes awaits!

- Quote of the day: Steve shows his more sensitive side with, "Oooh. Look at all the loevly purple hues in the evening sky!" Travelling has turned him.
