Like most gringos on "The Gringo Trail" we´ve arrived in Lima. Unlike most Gringos, however, we have the good fortune of knowing someone who lives in the swankiest part of Lima (Kurt - Tara's American friend from when she taught in London)! So after a month of hostels and luke-warm showers, we´re now living in the lap of luxury in Kurt's uptown "pad". A nice change!

In fact, some might say that we´ve wasted our time in Lima. We´ve slept in as much as possible, lazed around the flat and caught up on all our emails. We have had a bit of a walk around Miraflores (a lovely part of Lima where ex-pats like Kurt and all the rich Peruvians live) but other than that, we´ve had no desire to go and explore what seems to be just another big dirty smelly city. It also doesn´t help that the whole city is shrouded in the garrua fog that tends to hang around during the winter making a very low and grey skyline Interesting artworks inthe Park of Love,Miraflores

. Just like Wales in fact!

Anyway, we´ve had a great time with Kurt who´s been the perfect host. He took us to one of the best restaurants in Lima. Think of a Gordon Ramsey / Jamie Oliver style restaurant with the same level of standards and you´ll get an idea of what Astrid y Gaston is like. The food was excellent and we were gobsmacked when the bill came in - it was only £50 for the four of us! It´s so cheap out here. Steve spent about 20 minutes on the phone to the UK today and it only cost £2.50! The exchange rate is really working in our favour at the moment.

Kurt's very kindly invited us on a weekend away with him and his friends at the beach-front property they rent at Paracas this weekend. More lazing around in store! Although Tara needs to do her best to avopid the sand-flies. At the last calomine lotion spreading session, Steve counted 67 bites!

Another Latin American city - another cheap stay
Loving the way you're making the most of the exchange rate at the moment. I couldn't get over my shock when I lived in Ecuador, was constantly buying drinks for everyone, even people I didn't know! ;)
As for the view from Kurt's flat, VERY nice, although does no one drive out in Lima? This photos was either taken at the crack of dawn when there are no cars around, or people just walk everywhere!
Hasta pronto guapos,
Maria

Wow, we know 3 people in that picture!
Tara and Steve, we have been enjoying your travel log here in Vernon. Nice to see the many adventures that you two are having, making us very jealous. When looking at pictures from your visit to the beach house in Peru I was startled to see John Fyke a teacher we know from here in Vernon. Must be your friend Kurt's friend. Brian taught with John briefly at Kal before he headed down there. What can you say, small world!! Continue to enjoy your trip so that we too can live vicariously!
Love, The Monteith's
P.S. We are back to school now so that makes looking at the pictures a bit more difficult.
