If relaxing in the mountains last week wasn't enough we are at it again, this time by the beach. We finally have the sun and the surf and are taking full advantage. There doesn't seem to be many others partaking in this pastime though because on the first day in Huanchaco we were the only people on the beach! It was a Sunday afternoon as well!

We had a pleasant 6 hour bus ride to Trujillo, and found the outlying fishing village of Huanchaco with relative ease. When walking through the bus station, Steve was confused as to why all the waiting taxi touts were shouting, "Oliver!" at him. It was only when one of them shouted, "Hey! Oliver Khan!" that Steve knew his peroxide-blonde hair was finally making an impression with the locals!

It is quiet here and has a very sleepy feel to it which agrees with us fine after 4 days in Vilcabamba A moche Adobe depicting a child

. We would hate to shock ourselves with too much going on too quickly; you need to ease out of the lazy life with some sitting on the beach. Problem is we have to trek the Inca trail in a few weeks so too much relaxing may turn us into sloths, which may make the 4 day climb at altitude difficult!

We have, however, taken time out of our hectic schedule of reading on the beach to see some sights. We visited Huaca de la Luna on our second day here. We got there by Combi bus which is a brightly painted camper-van filled crammed full with people (and whatever else they felt like taking out with them for the day - 5 crates of empty bottles, a few bags of corn...) It really began to feel like we were in Peru, going through all the little communities on the way to the ruins, squished in with all the locals. The amount of honking of horns that drivers do here is impressive as well. It's like being stuck in the middle of convention of roadrunners.

We took a tour of the ruins, which were very impressive temples built on top of each other by the Moche people. After lunch in Trujillo and watching the sunset back in Huanchaco we called it an early night, what with not being used to having to get up and walk during the day!

Today we woke up and guess what??? We sat on the beach and did nothing! One last day of it because tomorrow we are off to the big city. Will we survive without lie-ins and lazy days by the beach?

DAILY FACTS

- Stayed at: Casa Suiza, Huanchaco. We had a nice pine-effect room with lukewarm shower. Can't fault the location, a mere 3 minutes walk from the beach and very close to Hospedaje My Friend which served legendary breakfasts. Recommended.

- Observation: Security is tight on some busses here. As well as having to show your ticket before boarding, you sometimes have to also show your passport. On the bus leaving Piura, the driver even walked up and down the aisle filming everyone on a video camera!
