Headed off to the Galapagos Islands today. On the plane ride over to Baltra we were surrounded by a very large group of loud Americans. I said to Steve, "Can you imagine if they were all on our boat?" Steve thought that there were too many of them for our 16 person boat. We soon discovered that there were 14 of them and we were the "lucky" couple that had to share the boat with them!

So it turns out that there are 3 families with a total of 8 kids and us two on a boat for 8 days. There went our vision of what the trip was going to be like; young like-minded backpackers to explore with during the day and drink wine with whilst swapping travel tips for South America at night. So our first day was spent watching children be put in "time out" and listening to them share their food aversions with the guide for an hour. Looks like no fish, meat or eggs for our boat this week Big red crab on dark black rock

Also, we were warned that you mustnīt, under any circumstances put toilet tissue down the toilet, it has to go in the little waste basket next to the toilet. This is a surprisingly difficult habit to get in to!

DAILY FACTS

- Stayed on: The Eden, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos.

- Number of times Steve had to shove hand down toilet: 2 wees, 1 poo

- R.I.P. - Glasses case which mysteriously disappeared from by Steve's feet on the plane to Baltra.

- Tip of the day - Buy your postcards to send from Post Office bay (see later entry) as soon as you arrive in Baltra airport and have collected your luggage. You will not get another chance!

- Wikitravel: Galapagos Islands, Baltra, Santa Cruz

Toilets
Did you guys never go to Greece in the early nineties? The hygenic prcatice of putting bog paper in the bin next to the loo was fully in force then - personally I prefer the way they do it in India! :-)
