A nice and relaxing first day in Quito. A pleasant wander around the old town was only marred by the fact that Tara had a jumper stolen from her backpack while it was on her back! Unbelievable!
We nipped up to the Panecillo hill to get some views of the whole of Quito (which itself sits at 2850m, so it´s pretty high), then headed down to the new town to try and find a replacement jumper!
DAILY FACTS
- Stayed at: L'Auberge Inn
- Latin American Spanish learnt: Computatorda = Ordenador = Computer

A mission
It sounds like you all are already having quite an adventure. Sorry for the stupid US entry rules. Don't blame me, I voted for Gore and Kerry!
Steve, I have a mission for you. I thought it might be fun to teach my students the ways people in different South American countries say something is 'cool.' I know you love to chat with the locals, so do you think you could help me out? You would be enriching the minds of countless ignorant okies!
You all keep having fun and zip those backpacks!

Hair today?
Great start to your blog, Little S, but what the heck is going on with your hair?
Hi to Tara!
Carolyn
Protestor
Gutted about Tara's jumper, but clearly she was going to be the one targeted as Steve, you look like one of those people (given your haircut) that turns up in random countries where there's some kind of global economic forum protesting about dual carriageways. Clearly you won't own a jumper worth stealing. It looks amazing, enjoy.
Not Jealous!
Hi Steve, just a jumper... not bad for the first day! Keep your wits about you in Quito! How did you find the altitude? Not drinking too much I hope? If you go past Confederate Book Store pop in and say hello to Bill (if he's still there). Enjoy!
Anagrams
Do you know that Ole Nob is an anagram of Blonde and sorry Steve, that's you with that bloody hair!
Why don't you knit Tara a new jumper from it and get back to your Welsh boy brunette...poof...
Sorry,
I can't actually spell...
Ain't no place like the middle of the world!
Hi guys
Just got back to work today to find what I first thought was spam emails in my inbox (sorry Tara, didn't recognise your surname Harrison you see), but on closer inspection, found it was your travel blog thingummy. It's cool!
I don't know about the blonde hair though Flosspot, what were you thinking??? ;) You will definitely stick out like a 'gringo' in Ecuador now.... not sure if that's such a good thing though ;)
Glad to hear that you're having fun and sorry to hear about your theft Tara... was only a matter of time before something got nicked, Quito (especially the old town) is renouned for it. I remember having my handbag slashed whilst it was still on my body too, and didn't feel a thing!
Anyway, what are your plans for the rest of Ecuador? You MUST go to Baños, Esmeraldas, Cuenca, climb the Cotopaxi, Otavalo and of course, las islas Galapagos if you can.
Send more piccies!!!!
Bicos y abrazos,
Maria (la gallega!)

Re: A mission
No problem! Here are a couple:
chevere - a general word used throughout South America
bacan (accent on last 'a' - can´t figure out how to use this weird keyboard!) - a particularly Ecuadorian word.
