Amarillo - Dallas

Everyone awoke surprisingly sprightly despite the late night last night. We hit the road just after 8 a.m. to make the journey to Dallas. There were no particularly interesting stops on the way (that I can remember at least) and we arrived in Dallas early afternoon. Most people either caught up on a bit of sleep or relaxed in the pool before we headed out to experience a genuine Texan rodeo. We were served an awesome BBQ for dinner before taking our seats in a custom-built rodeo arena.

There were the usual events: bull riding, horse riding and cattle wrangling. But there were also some other stranger events starting with the 'kids sheep challenge'. Basically every kid in the arena heads into the ring and are let loose to chase after a sheep and the first kid to catch the sheep wins...it was quite a sight to see hundreds of kids bearing down on this one poor sheep! The next strange event was 'rodeo poker', in which the rodeo clowns have to sit down at a table and play poker while a bull charges them. The last one left sitting wins! The final, and most memorable of strange events was the appearance of 'Whiplash, the Cowboy Monkey'. This oddity is basically a monkey strapped to the back of a sheepdog which goes around rounding up sheep. 'Whiplash' was to become the mascot for the Confreaky bus with the 'Whiplash, the Cowboy Monkey' chant unleashed in numerous pubs, restaurants and sporting events over the remainder of the tour.

After the rodeo we were driven to downtown Dallas for yet another night of drinking and dancing. As Randy pulled the bus up to the kerb we were greeted by a club-manager who was very keen to get us inside his club, offering to waive the normal $10 cover charge (he knew he would make a killing off our large group).
It ended up being a very loose night once again. They were pouring free shots for the girls (once again nothing for the blokes) and were offering price mixed drinks. We spent the whole night inside the sweaty club before realising that there was an open roof-top bar just before we were about to leave. This was the first night that we saw the hilarious drunk side of Fiona, who at one stage told me she felt totally numb, had to be carried down the stairs and then fell asleep in the cab on the way home!! Great times once again!!
