Day One Sixty-Two
Entry 66 of 119 | show all | print this entry |
After Zoobley got a clean bill of health from the vet, we headed east on I-8 to spend the night close to Mexicali for an early morning border crossing. There weren't any rooms or campgrounds in Calexico, so we had to settle for the Motel 6 in El Centro. In over five months on the road, I've only been scared once and this was it. The police cruiser repeatedly circling the parking lot should have been my first clue. Tom Bodett left the light on and like moths to a flame the dregs of humanity saw it and came in droves. The door to our $39.00 smoking room was secured by a table, chair, Zoobley's kennel and everything else in the room that wasn't nailed down before I drifted off to an uneasy sleep. I crossed my fingers and hoped that the truck would still be where I parked it in the morning.
