I finished packing this morning while Kudzu napped in the trailer and then we were off just before noon. It felt a little strange to pack everything back in the Toyota after having settled into life at Mojave but it's time to move on. I've discovered after five months on the road that it doesn't take much to live and if you stop for long, junk miraculously starts to accumulate. Kudzu and I turned in our uniforms and keys, said our good byes, and headed south on I-15.
The drive down I-15 through the Cajon Pass and the Los Angeles suburbs to Escondido is painfully slow at rush hour but is also very scenic for interstate travel. By nightfall, we had skirted the Los Angeles sprawl and were rolling into Vista in North San Diego county. Campgrounds are few and far between in Southern California so we stopped at a La Quinta (the La Quinta chain is one of the few progressive chains that accept pets so please support them when you can) and I had a carb and fat rich dinner at the Denny's next door while Zoobley enjoyed her Purina One.
