Days Sixty-Eight through Seventy-Two

Tired from the holiday excitement, Kudzu and I decided to hang around San Diego for a few days. We also are considering San Diego as a possible place to settle down and wanted to get more of a feel for the place. Unfortunately, it has pretty much rained all day every day and we have become way too familiar with our room (we had to change rooms on Monday because it rained so much the roof started leaking) at the Vagabond Inn in Point Loma. I don't much like the rain and neither does Kudzu, so we've watched every Law & Order episode twice and developed a serious addiction to CSI and CSI:Miami. I'm going to have major withdrawals from restaurant food also.
San Diego is a beautiful town with lots to do, but I don't see how people afford to live here. How can one afford to pay $400,000 for an 800 square foot starter home? Are there really working people out there who can make a $2,500 mortgage payment each month? San Diego jobs listed at Monster.com don't seem to pay that much more than those in other cities. Gasoline is almost $3.00 per gallon, groceries are significantly higher than in other areas, plus California has a state income tax and ridiculously high property taxes. I suppose Paradise comes with a steep price tag.
